What’s your “brand”? There’s a lot of discussion about “brand” these days — not just for products, but also for companies and increasingly even for individuals. “Brand” encompasses who you are in your career, and conscious management of “brand” can help you to craft how you come across and how others think of you. As you consider what goals you’d like to set for next year, you might consider what your “brand” is, and a post titled 7 Steps to Managing Your Brand by Shawn Graham offers 7 nice questions to point you in the right direction.
Networking tips… From a 9-year old. By this point in the holiday season, many of us (especially introverts) are “networked out.” Ready to go home and hide. But, that’s rarely a viable option, and there’s often more networking to be done, even after the holidays are over. I ran across this lovely post on Escape from Cubicle Nation with networking tips from a 9-year old, and I think it’s one of the smartest pieces I’ve read on networking all year. Tips derived from a savvy 9-year old’s playground moves:
* Be interested.
* Be real.
* Notice what’s important to the person with whom you’re networking.
* Ask for an introduction.
* Be nice to everyone you meet.
Do check out the post; the story is terrific teaching.

Hint: Made to Stick, which I reviewed here and did finally get to finish, would be a particularly good choice if you’d like to make your communications more effective.
