Stephanie West Allen will be speaking at the Law Firm Associated Leadership Conference, held November 14-15 in Arlington, VA. She has posted a short description of the conference, a link to the full brochure, and a $200 discount for registration. The summit promises to be fascinating — including presentations on professional development (with an eye toward developing leadership skills and style) and business development. I would have given my eyeteeth to attend a program like this while I was in practice!
As I’ve written previously, it seems to me that work/life balance falls into two areas: balance for parents of small children, and balance for the rest of us. Carolyn Elefant recently discussed this Legal Times article about programs designed to keep lawyers who choose to take a leave of absence to raise children. In her discussion, she provided a link to an article she wrote earlier this year discussing the steps that lawyers can take to treat their family responsibilities with the same care that they would exhibit as to client responsibilities. Good reading, on all counts, with a clear bottom line: plan ahead.Â
Welcome back!
