Did you know that your answer to one single question will have more impact on your legal career than just about anything else?

More impact than your level of legal skill.

More impact than the economy.

More impact than your practice area.

More impact than the financial stability of your firm or the other lawyers with whom you practice.

That question is, are you a rainmaker?

When you’re able to bring in business, you’re in charge of your practice, your career, your satisfaction, and your ultimate professional success.

  • As a rainmaker, you get to choose what kind of work you want to do and for what clients you want to do that work.  That means you won’t get stuck working on a matter that doesn’t interest you, and you won’t have the pain of working for unpleasant or unrealistic clients – unless you choose to do so.

  • As a rainmaker, you hold the keys to your financial success.  You’re able to bring in clients to support your practice, which also means that you have options…

    • You’ll thrive even if the firm in which you practice hits tough economic times.  Your ability to generate business means that you won’t have to depend on others to keep your practice afloat.  Your billable work won’t dry up – and if it does for some reason, you’ll be able to refresh your client pipeline so the drought doesn’t last.

    • You’ll be safe from layoffs.  Rainmakers contribute directly to a firm’s bottom line, and it doesn’t make economic sense to lay off any lawyer who’s bringing in enough business to support his or her practice – and when you bring in enough work to keep other lawyers busy as well, your practice will become a foundation that no firm will want to lose.

    • If you want to launch your solo practice, you'll reach profitability much more quickly. That means you can fulfill your dream of having your own practice without stepping into the nightmare of too many bills and not enough income.

    • You’ll be able to make a lateral move easily, and you’ll be courted by law firms eager to bring you on board.  Rainmakers are always in demand.  If you see greater opportunities elsewhere or if you become unhappy in your current firm, you’ll be able to make an advantageous move.  Without the ability to generate your own work, however, a move will be very difficult or even impossible, especially in a down economy.  (Just ask the unemployed lawyers now – many have good credentials, strong experience, and good-to-excellent legal ability… But without the ability to bring in billable work, they’re remaining on the job market for months and even years.)

  • As a rainmaker, you’ll advance more quickly in your practice.

      • You’ll be more likely to make partner more quickly.
      • Your practice will prosper and you'll feel much less stress.
      • You’ll hold more influence within your firm.
      • You’ll likely receive greater financial rewards more quickly than your non-rainmaker peers.

  • As a rainmaker, you provide better client service.  Some of the activities that generate business also help to keep you on the cutting edge of your practice area.  You get to know not only what’s happening in your field, but also what the trends are.  You’ll have an opportunity to provide proactive advice to your clients so they stay ahead of the curve.  Although clients won’t realize that your foresight comes as a direct result of your rainmaking activity, they’ll know that you understand their needs better than other lawyers.  Clients will be eager to have you work on their matters, and they’ll happily refer colleagues and friends to you.

These benefits begin to flow as soon as you begin to develop business, and they magnify as you bring in more and more new matters.  What’s more, you don’t have to be a rainmaker extraordinaire to reap these benefits.  The advantages compound as you’re able to bring in more and more business, but even beginning rainmakers experience additional influence, security, options, income, and satisfaction.

But some lawyers are reluctant rainmakers…
And others just don't know where to start.

Have you ever wondered why you can’t just focus on being a great lawyer?  Why that isn’t enough to bring in new business?  Maybe you’ve thought about business development activities but dismissed them because you went into practice to be a good lawyer and to serve your clients, not to be a salesperson. Or you talked with rainmakers and decided that you don't have the time, the inclination, or the personality to do the hard work required to bring in new business.

Like many other lawyers, you're probably frustrated when it comes to marketing and attracting clients. Why? You've probably read all the articles, bought the books, perhaps even attended business development workshops or conferences... But like most, you're probably not making much progress from what you learned. You may be just barely keeping your head above water.

This is why: When I ask people just like you why they're not succeeding, they tell me there's TOO MUCH information available. It's overwhelming, and they don't know where to start. What's more, most lawyers don't have anyone who can hold them accountable for getting things done.

And you know how that goes... When you don't have someone holding you accountable, it's easy to let things slide, especially when you get busy. You push your rainmaking work onto the back burner -- and believe me, you are not alone! And when your rainmaking tasks are on the back burner, you don't get new business. It's just that simple.

The other problem with relying on business development books and conferences is that those materials can't help you figure out how to recover from the inevitable obstacles that hit everyone. You need clear and insightful feedback, and you need to get your rainmaking questions answered. So many lawyers (me included) like to think of themselves as a lone ranger. But if you're not where you want to be with your rainmaking, sometimes just a little bit of help can make all of the difference in the world in propelling you forward... And not getting that help can leave you stuck.

Finally, you need to have someone to brainstorm with, so you can kick around ideas and find what will stick.

Here's the secret: if you know what systems to implement and which steps to take, you'll find that the seeds of your rainmaking success are right at hand. You don't have to be the never-met-a-stranger networker or a member of the well-connected uppercrust to succeed in business development. When you create the right conditions with knowledge, accountability, and support, you can learn how to transform your strong legal skills, along with your genuine and authentic interpersonal connections, into a thriving practice.

Is it time for you to build a thriving practice?

You need to know this: getting new business takes time and energy. There is no magic pill to avoid the work, and if you're looking for a magic strategy, you will be disappointed.

But if you're ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work, you can bring in the new business you've wanted -- and more.

How do I know?

I've been where you are now -- working hard for my clients, knowing that I needed to figure out how to bring in business, but not knowing what to do or how to fit it in. I knew I wasn't alone, but I didn't know how much it mattered until ...

In 2004, I wanted to make a lateral move. My future was looking pretty rosy, until the recruiter asked the question I hadn't anticipated: "Do you have a book of business?" I was astonished! As a 5th year associate working on multi-hundred million dollar cases, I couldn't believe anyone would expect me to have clients yet. But that recruiter did, and so did the next one, and the one after that.

Fortunately, I was able to make a move with no problem despite my lack of clients, but I vowed that the next time someone asked, I'd have a strong book of business. I set to work learning how to get clients, and I began to figure it out. I couldn't find anything that would give me all the skills and strategy I needed to make progress, so I started looking elsewhere. And I began to put things together, to figure out the missing piece that I'd never had a chance to learn anywhere else: how to bring in new business.

I left the practice for personal reasons about a year later, but I took the lessons with me as I launched my own consulting business. While I was in a law firm, I had a nice salary whether or not I brought in my own clients, but that ended as soon as I walked out that door. Since I knew what to do, though, I've been able to build a successful consulting business using exactly the principles I now teach.

Are you ready to get to work, to build the practice you want, with a consistent pipeline of clients? Is your answer a strong, resounding "YES?" Then you're ready for...

The Lawyers' Business
Development Boot Camp

Give me six hours, and I'll show you exactly what you need to do to make 2010 your most profitable year yet.

Participating in the Lawyers Business Development Boot Camp was one of the best business decisions I've made. The boot camp was excellent and well worth the investment of time and money. I really liked the accountability aspect of the program. As a sole practitioner, I truly appreciated having someone else, besides myself, to be accountable to. I've read Julie's book The Reluctant Rainmaker and have recommended it to other lawyers. I really liked Julie's coaching style which is both professional and friendly. The one-on-one consultations with Julie helped me to develop a solid plan that has helped me to grow my business. Julie is an invaluable resource.

Trademark Lawyer, London, Ontario, Canada

I created the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp to help those who want to attract lots of clients and continually have a full pipeline of prospective clients and referral sources without breaking the bank.

You see, I've been approached many times by lawyers, just like you, who wanted to learn how to get clients consistently, but they simply didn't have the means to pay my private coaching fees. Especially following the tight times we've faced in the last couple of years, some lawyers are barely covering expenses. So, after lots of creative brainstorming, I created a program that would leverage my time, but still be able to give value and all the tools required for these people to get the same information as my private clients, but at a really affordable price.

When you join the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp, you'll learn not just what to do, but how to do it for maximum success. We'll begin with the foundational work of checking your priorities and setting your goals for 2010, and then we'll cover specifically what you must do to make it happen.

Consider this Boot Camp to be the Cliff Notes® version of my Lawyers Business Development Blueprint™. You'll get a condensed version of valuable tools, countless books and seminars all rolled into material ready to give you a quick start to landing new business.

Here's what you'll receive as a member of the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp:

  • Five 90-minute Teleconferences, 12:30 - 2:00 PM ET (by telephone or webcast) During each teleconference, I'll spend 90 minutes giving you information you need to succeed in rainmaking. I'll answer your questions, give you assignments, review your progress, and give you the next steps to implement. That's seven and a half hours of content delivery. (a $2850 value)

Here's what we'll cover during each teleconference:

    • July 22
      • Business development priorities
      • Create your business development plan
      • Review your written marketing materials
    • August 5
      • Networking
        • Where
        • With whom
        • How
      • Introductions that generate interest
      • Immediate follow-up
    • August 19
      • Following up with your contacts
      • Asking for the business
        • Should I ask?
        • When?
        • How?
    • September 2
      • Writing and speaking that gets results
        • Article-writing
        • Newsletters / legal alerts
        • Blogs
        • CLE programs
        • Teaching
        • Clients seminars
    • September 16
      • Effective use of social media (including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and selected legal-specific platforms)
  • Recordings of each call, available within 24 hours of the call If the meeting times aren't convenient for your schedule, you can hear the call when it is convenient for you! The recording will be delivered as an MP3 and through a streaming webcast, so you can listen online, download the calls to your computer, save them to your MP3 player, or burn them to CD. You'll be able to listen as many times as you like, and you can share content with your assistant so you can get help with implementing ideas right away. (a $595 value)

  • Transcripts of every call Some people prefer to read rather than to listen to material, and other people like to review content and be able to make notes in the margin. I'll be providing transcripts of every single call, so you'll create your own resource library. You'll receive your transcripts within 48 hours of each call. (a $400 value)

  • Weekly progress reports You'll receive a Weekly Progress Form to fill out and send to me the day before each teleconference. You can save this in your files and fill in the answers throughout the week or the day before our Boot Camp call to help you track your progress and to improve the efficiency of our time together. The more you tell me what you want to work on with this form, the more I will be able to help you. This is the same form that I use with my private clients, and I've seen over and over that those who complete the form move forward faster than those who don't. (a $45 value)

  • Written responses to your questions, delivered as a PDF Each progress report includes a space for you to ask your most burning questions. I'll answer some during the next meeting, and I'll answer all of the questions received in a PDF that will be provided with each week's recording. That means that you'll never be left with unanswered questions, and you'll never have to wonder whether you're understanding correctly. (a $995 value)

  • Workbook and templates for you to complete You don't have time to recreate the wheel, so I've created worksheets and templates that will make implementation easier than ever. You'll receive your first worksheet before the Boot Camp starts, and each week I'll deliver additional documents that will simplify your rainmaking efforts. Worksheets include:
      • Business development plan creation
      • Introduction templates
      • Article-writing query template
      • Speaking template
      • Newsletter / legal alert template

You'll be able to use these worksheets and templates over and over not just during the Boot Camp but for years to come. (a $325 value)

  • Weekly office hours You'll have the opportunity to sign up for 15-minute 1-on-1 consulting during specified office hours each and every week. This is your chance to get your questions answered, test your ideas and get on-the-spot feedback, and get my brainstorms for your practice. You can ask me anything you want about your assignments, marketing materials, or anything that you need help with to attract more clients during these calls. The only questions I can't address, of course, would relate to your substantive legal work. (a $750 value)

  • One 10-minute "SOS" call  During the boot camp, you may have a delicate business situation, or perhaps you'd like feedback on a pitch you're planning.  Or maybe you just need extra time to sort something through.  Whatever the reason, you'll have a 10-minute "SOS" call to use at your discretion during the boot camp.  (a $75 value)

Before going through the Lawyers Business Development Bootcamp, I found it difficult to focus my business development efforts and to plan activities. As a result of participating in the Bootcamp, I’m able to zero in on what’s important. I think more about business development now and I’m better able to plan my activities strategically. The content and resources Julie delivered were quite helpful, and I’m very satisfied with my experience.

Are YOU a Good Fit for This Boot Camp?

You may be a good first for the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp if you...

  • Are a high-achieving lawyer who's eager to grow a strong and sustainable practice.
  • Are willing to try new experiments and to take on activities even if they're outside your comfort zone.
  • Want access to a business development expert who explains things clearly and provides all the tools you'll need to achieve your goals.
  • Like to be challenged, are willing to do the work required to succeed, and have a no-excuses, do-what-it-takes approach to success.
  • Have a "yes, can do" attitude with enthusiasm and drive.

You will NOT be a good candidate for the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp if you...

  • Are more interested in examining why you don't have all the business you want rather than changing it.
  • Are a chronic skeptic or whiner who makes excuses for everything in life.
  • Aren't ready to do the work.
  • Have difficulty showing up on time for things and honoring your commitments to yourself and others.
  • Are pessimistic or you don't believe you have what it takes to succeed in business.

If these characteristics describe you, then I respectfully ask that you not register for the Boot Camp. You won't get the results you're seeking, and we'll both walk away frustrated and disappointed.

Required Materials for Boot Camp

Before beginning the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp, you should already own (and, preferably, have read) my book The Reluctant Rainmaker: A Guide for Lawyers Who Hate Selling. The book will serve as a reference for our work, and you'll get a faster start if you've already read it since I won't be teaching you these techniques from scratch. A head start will leave more time for you to customize, tweak and finesse your approach, rather than starting with the basics of the program.

I will refer to The Reluctant Rainmaker during our work together, so it's important that you have it at hand.

If you don't already own The Reluctant Rainmaker, you can purchase it along with your Boot Camp, or you can purchase the Kindle® version at Amazon.com.

OK, I'm ready to move forward!
What's My Investment for the
Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp?

I would recommend this course to any attorney looking to become better at business development. It is both challenging and informative. Although it would not be possible for Julie to physically do more than 90 minutes for the group teleconferences, I find that at each call I want more. This whole experience has been wonderful.

Before we get into the details, let's quickly review what you get with this program:

  1. Five 90-minute Teleconferences (a $2850 value)
  2. Recordings of each call, available within 24 hours of the call (a $595 value)
  3. Transcripts of every call, delivered within 48 hours of the call (a $400 value)
  4. Weekly progress reports (a $45 value)
  5. Written responses to your questions, delivered as a PDF (a $995 value)
  6. Workbook and templates for you to complete (a $325 value)
  7. Weekly office hours (a $750 value)
  8. 10-minute "SOS" Call (a $75 value)

The total value of the Boot Camp is $6035. That may seem like a hefty investment, but stop for a moment and think about what one new client is worth to you.

  • $15,000?
  • $10,000?
  • $5,000?

If you consider the referrals this one client is likely to bring you (especially after you learn how to elicit referrals in an ethical and authentic way), the true value of even one client will be substantially higher. So essentially, if you're like most of my clients, just one or two new clients would be more than enough to cover the investment for this program in its entirety.

But I Have Good News For You Today!

I could charge $5000 (or more) for all those aspects of the program, but I don't want to do that.

Here's why. The last two years have been brutal for lawyers (and their clients). My mission is to help as many lawyers as possible to build successful practices. Most people like the one-on-one coaching that I offer are willing and able to pay the coaching fees. Sometimes they're not, even though they know that investing in this one-on-one work would more than pay off. I hate to turn people away, especially when I know they really need my help.

So, I've created a way to leverage my time and be able to coach up to 20 people successfully and at the same time. That's why I'm able to give you a huge reduction on your Boot Camp coaching fees.

So, you're NOT going to have to invest $5000 for this program. Or $2500. Not even $1000.

Your investment in the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp is only $997, and you have the option of making three payments, so you can spread out your investment over time.

And if you register by midnight ET on July 2, your investment is only $897. If you like, you can even make three payments. I want to make this a no-brainer decision for you.

Early-Bird (on or before 7/2)
Regular (after 7/2)
One payment of $897

Three payments of $347 each

(first payment on registration,
subsequent payments 30 days apart)

Three payments of $379 each

(first payment on registration,
subsequent payments 30 days apart)

You can get step-by-step instruction, tested templates and worksheets, and feedback and ideas from someone who knows how to bring in the business. You can shortcut the trial and error and fumbling around that wastes so much time. You can set yourself up to make 2010 your best year yet.

Or, you can continue to struggle on your own. The choice is yours.

If you're ready to commit, you must act quickly. Click here to reserve your spot for the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp. I look forward to working with you!

MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

I want you to be 100% satisfied with the Lawyers' Business Development Boot Camp. I ask that you listen to all of the teleconferences and complete all of the assignments. (Remember, this isn't a magic pill -- success does require effort.) And then, if you decide within a year of the end of the program that you aren't satisfied simply let my team know and you'll receive a full and cheerful refund of the fee paid.

Best regards,

P.S.  Imagine yourself one year from now. Are you still struggling in your practice, or are you attracting all the business you need and want? The choice is yours. A year from now, you'll be glad you started this today.
