The First Five Years of Practice

The first thing smart new lawyers learn is that each individual must be in charge of and responsible for his or her professional development and satisfaction. Skills to be developed include not only those technical skills particular to a practice area, but also also time management, communication, interpersonal relations, organization, leadership, and client relations skills. Professional development also requires creation of a professional vision, career goals, and a personal yardstick for recognizing success. Equally critical is building a life that supports the challenging work of a legal practice.

Your first five years in practice will become the foundation for the rest of your years in practice. I would be delighted to be your partner in creating a strategic and authentic approach to your career and the life that will support it.

"We are what we desire to be. We can be what we wish to be. If we make a plan of our own lives and desire that plan to be fulfilled, we will become that. And all the laws of the universe will help us to become that."
                                                                           -Walter Russell
